The Mini-Bar has long been a source of lost revenue and ongoing headaches for both management and staff with guest disputes over
what they did or did not consume. (It is amazing what lengths some guests would go to for a free beer!)
However, there is now some clever technology that places sensors in the fridge itself to determine what has been removed and/or
replaced – no more relying on the guests’ memory/honesty and manually entering individual items at a busy check-out counter. When these “smart” fridges are connected
to the NR-BAR module, their billing data can be sent directly to a PMS and charges posted to the appropriate guest folio – all without human intervention. Of course
– it is still advised that a credit card imprint is retained and house-keeping inspect mini-bars as per normal practice.
Additionally, the NR-BAR module can produce reports and/or communicate with a stock management program to let the site know when
they need to order more supplies. Some of the stock management software can even take this process one step further and automatically place orders online for
replacement stock.
